"TCG Lifesciences is committed to building trust-based partnerships with global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to collaboratively create new molecular assets and find innovative technology solutions by leveraging its integrated research services platform and translational medicine capabilities."
‘Drug Discovery’ The Changing Scenario
While R&D expenditure has been increasing over time, global pharmaceutical majors are producing fewer new drugs. Moreover, whether or not a drug ultimately proves to be safe and effective in humans, thousands of compounds go through an elaborate research process resulting with perhaps only one candidate for testing in humans. This complex research process coupled with the long phase wise approach in the clinic, entails nearly a billion dollars and many years of hard work to generate one successful drug. This proves to be a challenge worthy of concern, especially when today's world needs more effective and affordable medicines.
Many pharmaceutical majors are tackling this challenge by fundamentally altering the traditional internal drug R&D approach, by choosing to outsource to partners with integrated preclinical and development research platforms preferably having translational medicine capabilities. Conventionally, fundamental research had been alienated from the clinical practice of medicine by a series of hurdles. New drug candidates were developed independently of the clinic, and often "thrown over the fence" for safety testing and clinical trials.
‘TCG Lifesciences’ The Preferred Partner
Translational medicine capabilities enable TCG Lifesciences in removing these hurdles for its partners. We identify genes that relate to a particular disease or phenotypic effect by analyzing patient genomic and phenotypic information gained in discovery and clinical trials. Develop chemical compounds or biologics that target these identified genes or proteins. Focus on the target and evaluate the effect against diseased tissue and transition the compounds or biologics to pre-clinical and clinical development with greater chance of success. Moreover, the specimens, as well as, the subject and clinical data captured during clinical trials can be potentially re-used for further discovery research. In this manner we assist our partners in increasing their productivity by leveraging our integrated research platform and lowering the upfront and ongoing costs of research and development.
TCG Lifesciences has the relevant expertise, access to the needed infrastructure and a thin-client informatics solution to manage biorepository of specimens and associated experimental and clinical data. It intends to provide the interface to relevant scientific disciplines and help its partners discover and develop better medicines for the patients.
